Wishing the happiest of birthdays to His Royal Badness, Prince Rogers Nelson. Follow me on Twitter where I’m tweeting a lot using the #HappyBirthdayPrince tag :)
So far today I have listened to all of For You, Prince, Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999 and Purple Rain. Next up, Parade - which I made a documentary about last year that you should really listen to :)
This is the fourth song from my new EP “Chapter 0 : REINKARNAL” - my cover/remake/re-interpretation of the classic 1994 R. Kelly hit “Your Body’s Callin”. I haven’t assigned it a chapter number because it won’t appear on the future total-package EP that will be on iTunes, Spotify, etc due to sample clearance issues. So enjoy, right here and right now is your only chance to get hold of this. Download it below, for free, but as always, feel free to pay any amount you choose to, if you want to.

About six months ago, I realized that aside from a live jam of Prince’s “Controversy” during a Maida Vale session with my band Swami, I’ve never performed or released a cover. I set out to remedy this, chose this classic r&b joint from 1994, put my own twist on it…..and voila!
“gonna give you all my love….”
This is the third song, “She Got It (I Want It)” from my new EP, “Chapter 0 : REINKARNAL”. Download below, and once again, although you can download it for free, if you can afford to pay something for the song, please do (any amount you choose).

“She Got It (I Want It)” was written back in February 2009 in my homestudio. I was crushing on a certain female singer and she indirectly inspired this song. The drum was inspired by a Prince track, and the song itself is a fairly straightfoward ode to lust.
“when she hit you with a smile, rockin that future cyberstyle, she make your mind get wild…”
Jimmy Jam&Terry Lewis are 2 of my favorite producers for the simple fact that their musical ability is unparalleled and they’re extremely consistent yet innovative at the same time. If I were asked what producer(s) inspired me the most or who I emulate I would have to say Jimmy&Terry as far as my synths, leads and chord progressions. Jimmy&Terry can take a simple chord progression or synth riff and turn it into a monster hit. I honestly feel they don’t get the credit they deserve. i would almost credit them for starting the New Jack Swing sound cause you first heard those Swing Beat hip hop-esque records on Janet Jackson’s Control album along with the Boomerang Soundtrack. NO SHADE at Teddy Riley because he IS the one who made the New Jack Swing sound popular in the late 80s early 90s. but i’ve always felt Jimmy&Terry were ahead of their time sound and production wise -KB

Sugarfoot - I’m Your Sugar [Produced by Roger Troutman] - one of my favorite rare funk jams. I just listened to it like 5 times in a row :)

Ralph Tresvant - “Sensitivity” (produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis)
Compiling a list of my favorite Jam & Lewis productions is a task that would take me hours. But I know damn well this track would DEFINITELY be in my Top 10, if not Top 5.
Prince performs Electric Chair from his Batman soundtrack live on SNL in 1989. Killer performance.
Little known fact about this performance - that is legendary jazz-pop keyboardist and singer Patrice Rushen sitting in with Prince’s band for this performance… you can just about see her on the left side at the back ;)

You guys have gotta see this video! Props to Andy Allo of the NPG for sharing it!!
This is an unreleased song called Crazy Love by one of my favorite artists, and one of the greatest funk artists of all time - Jesse Johnson. Here’s the back story to this recent leak, from forum member jahcornelius on prince.org, who leaked it.
“I bought about 12 reel to reel master tapes from someone who claimed to have gotten them in a music trunk from jesse years ago. The tapes were masters from Jesse - which included songs he produced for Vanity, Keith Cohen and a few others.
This was the only unreleased Jesse song, and it was labeled “Crazy Love” as the song, and “Real Life Mode” was listed as the album.”
